Blade Runner 2049

You may not have guessed that the dystopian state of Los Angeles filmed in Blade Runner 2049 is a real place, just smaller. The scenes, from Los Angeles to the Trash Mesa and Wallace Tower were built to scale in Wellington, New Zealand by Weta Workshop, the massive ‘miniature’ sets were then filmed by cinematographer Alex Funke.

Smallest coffee

When designer Lucas Zanotto was asked by Finnish coffee company Paulig to create an ad for them, this is what he came up with. To brew the smallest cup of joe in the world, he uses one bean of Kenya AA-plus Karindum coffee, “grinds” it with a nail file, drops the fine grounds into the tiniest coffee filter you’ll ever see, boils the water over a candle, and pours the dark brew into what looks like a vial.

Subway Rave

This video gets more and more fun as it goes on. Passengers on the Bakerloo line on a London tube train were privy to a pop-up rave Monday night. At first, drum’n’bass MC Harry Shotta acts like an unsuspecting passenger, sitting behind a newspaper on a seat. He looks up in surprise as music suddenly blasts through a sound system and lights begin to flash. Then it turns into a full-on rave. Another DJ calls up Shotta and asks what his name is. When he answers “Harry Shotta” the passengers cheer, and then they are rewarded with a great show. Never has a subway ride looked so exciting.

Circular runway

Aviation expert Henk Hesselink thinks that airports should have circular runways instead of straight ones. Among other things, large circular runways could reduce the need for crosswind landings, use airport land more efficiently, and increase the number of planes simultaneously landing and taking off.
