Mars wheel

Imagine you’re sending a rover to Mars. The rover’s tires need to be light, durable, and also flexible enough to tackle a variety of terrain. NASA has spent decades trying to craft the perfect rover wheels, but something always comes up short in the pick-2 situation…typically durability. Now researchers at the NASA Glenn Research Center have come up with a promising new rover wheel for the next generation of rovers.

Antimatter cubesat

Antimatter is the most energy dense material in the universe. Positron dynamics core innovations is the ability to generate intense beams of cold positrons using an array of moderators. They use a radioisotope as a source of positrons. They react the gamma particles to get a charged ion which they direct with magnetic fields for propulsion. Rocket engines based on this would have exhaust at 10% of the speed of light.

Annihilation

Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the 2nd expedition ended in mass suicide; the 3rd expedition in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. Robert Penney created a pixel-perfect animation of Stranger Things as a turn-of-the-1990s adventure game a la Secret of Monkey Island. Turns out that he’s got a knack for these displaced artifacts, each pulled from a parallel universe where 20th century game systems still received rushed, sloppy games based on inappropriate movies and shows.

Octopus City

A group of scientists discovered an underwater “octopus city” off the coast of Australia in Jervis Bay, and they’ve named it “Octlantis.” This discovery of octopuses interacting in a high-density den challenges scientists’ previously held belief that octopuses are solitary and antisocial creatures.
