Gates Envy

But just as huge, powerful countries can be awkward neighbors—a Canadian leader once likened his country’s relations with the United States to a mouse bedding down with an elephant—lavishly funded organisations can sometimes cause resentment among other outfits which are struggling to do a similar job. And whether because of jealousy or legitimate concerns, the Gates Foundation has not been having such an easy time of late with its public image.

Wherein the sleepy NGO world gets a rude awakening and a kick in the behind from the Gates foundation.

Canadian slur

Recent revelations that the term “Canadian” is being used to replace racist names for black people have got a Texas assistant district attorney into trouble and have left others wondering what exactly it means to be labelled a Canadian in the American south.

Vishing

Vishing operates like phishing by persuading consumers to divulge their Personally Identifiable Information (PII), claiming their account was suspended, deactivated, or terminated. Recipients are directed to contact their bank via telephone number provided in the e-mail or by an automated recording.

vishing? you gotta be kidding me. also, you gotta be kidding me if you do business with your bank over the phone. you have it coming.

Sarkozy goes off the rails

Sarkozy declared the death of the 35-hour week, suggested that large companies may have to 2x or 3x the part of their profit they are obliged to share with employees and vowed to replace gross domestic product with a more holistic indicator of economic welfare. He would put a state bank in charge of defending French industry against sovereign wealth funds and other financial predators.

So much for that guy. Same old, same old.

France Facebook President

He used that information and got some coverage with French media that started to report the news and really believed that a French man had become the new worldwide president of Facebook without event taking the time to validate the facts or understanding what this title implied.
