Kakistocracy
What is so unnerving about the candidacy of Sarah Palin is the degree to which she represents—and her supporters celebrate—the joyful marriage of confidence and ignorance, Kakistocracy. “Governor Palin, are you ready at this moment to perform surgery on this child’s brain?” “Of course, Charlie. I have several boys of my own, and I’m an avid hunter.”
Witchcraft riot
A riot broke out at a soccer match in the Congo after 1 of the players was accused of using witchcraft. 13 people were killed
in africa, belief in witchcraft is still widespread. unbelievable.
Useless Jobs favor GOP
people in useless professions try harder to put what they do in a greater spiritual or religious context. Obvious examples are scientology/buddhism/kaballa/”spirituality” for Hollywood types and evangelical Christianity for athletes.
Beijing rated by Tourists
ridiculous. the top restaurants are all non-chinese based on sophisticated tourist tastes.
Maps blamed in Georgia
reports that the company removed details of Georgian civil infrastructure from its Google Maps were inaccurate. “We have never had local data for those countries and that is why local details such as landmarks and cities do not appear”
are they completely retarded? not launched != removed
NBC outsmarted
NBC, which owns the exclusive rights to broadcast the Olympics in the United States, spent most of Friday trying to keep it that way. NBC’s decision to delay broadcasting the opening ceremonies by 12 hours sent people across the country to their computers to poke holes in NBC’s technological wall by finding newsfeeds on foreign broadcasters’ Web sites and by watching clips of the ceremonies on YouTube and other sites.
the real villains are of course the IOC, which mandate all this nonsense. just like the sports syndicates force cable channels to pay a sports subsidy, whether you watch their crap or not.
Pledge of Allegiance
From its inception, in 1892, the Pledge has been a slavish ritual of devotion to the state, wholly inappropriate for a free people. It was written by Francis Bellamy, a Christian Socialist pushed out of his post as a Baptist minister for delivering pulpit-pounding sermons on such topics as “Jesus the Socialist.” Bellamy was devoted to the ideas of his more-famous cousin Edward Bellamy, author of the 1888 utopian novel Looking Backward. Looking Backward describes the future United States as a regimented worker’s paradise where everyone has equal incomes, and men are drafted into the country’s “industrial army” at the age of 21, serving in the jobs assigned them by the state…Bellamy’s book inspired a movement of “Nationalist Clubs,” whose members campaigned for a government takeover of the economy. A few years before he wrote the Pledge of Allegiance, Francis Bellamy became a founding member of Boston’s first Nationalist Club
nice takedown on one of the many silly things going on in this country
Plastic coffee

2 cups of McDonald’s iced coffee (BUY!) sit on the Fox 5 TV news desk, a punch-you-in-the-face product placement (BUY!) to chase down your morning news. They’’re still looking every bit as frosty and tantalizing (BUY!) as they were the first day you laid your eyes on them. They’re not real. Fake coffee on the news, 2 plastic cups permanently filled with some kind of bogus drink. The anchors aren’t even supposed to acknowledge them, McDonald’s reps explain.
iced coffee from ginormous containers is always fake
