Switzerland is going down the toilet

prediction: within 5 years, switzerland will be in dire straits, and will resemble the japan of today. economic growth will screech to a halt, and may even hit a deflation. within 10 years, switzerland will have a significantly lower standard of living in relation to other countries.

there are several reasons for this:

  • a failure to attract low wage immigrants by closing the borders
  • a failure to provide funding for new companies
  • misguided gov spending that emphasizes obsolete industries (military, agriculture)
  • a reluctance to push painful reform through
  • a belief that “swiss quality” will always reign supreme while failing to innovate
  • failing to train the next generation of an excellent workforce

Blog hosting

i’m talking to a few friends about launching a blog hosting operation at university of zurich. blogs are not on the swiss mind yet (only 20 known blogs), but at the same time, more and more people are losing their fear of “them computers” and are starting to do more than just surf and play silly online games. blogs are now on the map at uc berkeley, the natives haven’t discovered it yet though. i’m wondering what price students would be willing to pay for such a service. i’m thinking around 20 bucks per semester.

i wonder when carl will finish the comments module, it’s getting annoying
