Second Life requiem

It’s desolate, dirty, and sex is outcast to a separate island. Barry Collins returns to Second Life to find out what went wrong, and why it’s raking in more cash than ever before. 3 years ago, I underwent one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life – and I barely even left the office. I spent a week virtually living and breathing inside Second Life: the massively multiplayer online world that contains everything from lottery games to libraries, penthouses to pubs, skyscrapers to surrogacy clinics. Oh, and an awful lot of virtual sex.

The virtual CoLab is a dedicated “island” in the “Second Life” online virtual world, and will later be complemented by a traditional Web-based community website.

while all those SL island are getting a bit tiresome, it is still promising to see NASA try to engage.

Second Earth

Mirror Worlds vs. Virtual Worlds – Second Life is fictional, whimsical, experimental. Google Earth is a reflection of the real world and will remain so in the future. In SL, you can make or do almost anything. GE is meant to be a platform for delivering geo-referenced information that is strictly relevant and useful (as well as fun) for our first lives.

Second Life Proselytizing

The establishment of virtual churches and congregations of avatars would seem to raise some knotty theological questions, which I’m not sure the LifeChurch.tv pastors have fully thought through. In creating virtual worlds, aren’t we usurping God’s role – and hence committing a heresy? Are avatars created in God’s image or our own? Can they be saved? Can they be damned? Does sin even exist in a virtual world? Is there a Second Afterlife?
