Shanghai Expo

Organizers of Shanghai’s World Expo have been holding trial runs this week. Officials now estimate the 6-month event, themed “Better City, Better Life”, will attract up to 100m visitors, 95% of them Chinese. Shanghai has spent $58.6b preparing for the Expo – more than was spent on the Beijing Olympics. Sigma DP2

Sigma has announced the DP2, a large sensor compact camera that will sell alongside the DP1. The new model’s specifications are largely identical to the DP1’s but it comes with a 41mm (35mm equiv.) lens, rather than the 28mm equiv. lens of its sister model; the new lens is also a stop faster at F2.8 as opposed to F4. The DP2 additionally includes the True II image processing engine that appears in the new SD15 DSLR, which the company says offers improved processing speed, operation and performance.

Manhattan Street Corners

Richard Howe’s photographs of Manhattan street corners capture the many identities of a multi-faceted city. The sequences of images read like a film where we are peering into the lives of the people who define the city’s character. This is a poignant way to distinguish New York, presented in a fashion that pays great respect to the aesthetics of photography. The New-York Historical Society looks forward to including these works in our collections.
