Design Principles for NYC Waterfront
By creating 2 traditional blocks, it wouldn’t be inviting to local community and the greater community. We created more upland connections, 2 more than required by City Planning. We gave much more open feeling and we created a plaza. Waterfront guidelines required 12m promenade, we exceeded that.

Woolworth Building
Woolworth Building is typically closed to visitors due to security paranoia. a shame, the interior was designed to attract attention. the basement now houses a lonely and forgotten bike rack, a far cry from the swimming pool and german beer cellar it used to.














NYC type foundry district
I was able to plot out the locations for every foundry that had been active in New York between 1828 (the earliest records I could find with addresses) to 1909. All of the buildings have been demolished, and in some cases the entire street has since been erased. But a startling picture still emerged: New York once had a neighborhood for typography.

make that 2: it turns out the high line, even the 3rd part, are under constant threat, and amanda burden, chair of the nyc planning commission, is responsible both for the highline, as well as all the revitalized waterfront. amazing. these 2 have made nyc the city with highest quality of life in the us.

East River Blueway
East River Blueway is taking shape. there are new piers, a beach, and more esplanade opening this summer. on a related note, the floating swimming pool on the brooklyn side is making progress too and should be operational by summer 2016.
