The smell of maraschino cherries, not unpleasant but eye-wateringly strong, fills the factory, and the floors remain sticky even though they’re constantly mopped. Sometimes neighbors in apartments overlooking the building caught a few whiffs of marijuana along with the cherries. David Selig thought the smell of pot might be the result of workmen smoking it on their breaks. The police had failed to find suspicious signs. An increase in energy consumption consistent with the use of grow lights had not been detected, possibly because the factory had its own gasoline-powered generators, and a drug-sniffing dog had not been able to discover a definitive scent of marijuana. Independently, environmental investigators, acting on a tip, began to look into possible violations in the dumping of wastewater from the cherry-manufacturing process into the sewer. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn D.A.’s office more or less forgot about the marijuana investigation.

Infilling Hoboken
The total cost of our development fully built out will be $111m. Creating lovable, fine-grained, human-scale places can be profitable – even around a very expensive city like New York City.
A ride with Andy Byford
He may not have gotten the real sense of trying to get somewhere on a tight timeline, waiting for slow elevators, or encountering broken elevators. I think he still got some good insights and learned a few new things. For instance, auto-gates, the emergency exits that double as a wheelchair entrances, only accept reduced-fare MetroCards. This was brand new information for him. The card reader was not working where we met at Times Square, and April pointed out that she wants to pay the full fare like everyone else. He also noticed that the signage to elevators also needs work and that there weren’t enough accessible areas on the train cars themselves. We were able to deliver our wishlist, and hope to continue the conversation. I believe he will continue to listen to people with disabilities
Brahms and Radiohead
The most breathtaking musical event this spring will bring together one of the most successful concept albums of all time — Radiohead’s OK COMPUTER — with one of the most important symphonies ever — Brahm’s 1st — in an epic performance. Brahms V. Radiohead is the newest opus from Stereo Hideout Orchestra, whose composer Steve Hackman has married other modern and classical maestros before, like Björk and Bartók, Bon Iver and Aaron Copland. This will be Stereo Hideout’s first NYC performance, and they have hired some of Brooklyn’s most brilliant musicians for the 55-piece orchestra and 3 vocalists who will be seamlessly layering Radiohead’s motifs and lyrics into Brahms’ masterpiece.
Outstanding Tacos
Tacos have nearly taken over from slices of pizza as the culinary backbone of New York City. Over the last 30 years we’ve learned to love the southern Mexican style of 2 corn tortillas flopped over a meaty filling, sprinkled with onions and cilantro. But other types of tacos have flown in the window, too, reminding us of the days when all we had were hardshells. Like your tacos rolled? Or tiny? Or with a flour tortilla? Or with a dab of guac? Freighted with organs? Or “Arabe? style — wrapped in a flour tortilla like shawarma? We’ve got ’em all, and more. Here are our favorite taquerias, curated by Eater critic Robert Sietsema. And it’s not that we don’t love chef-driven tacos, fusion tacos, or tacos produced by chains: We do! But this collection is reserved for humbler classic specimens.
Mikkeller NYC
Beloved brewery Mikkeller is finally tapping into the New York City market, adding a large brewery attached to Citi Field in Queens come Sunday, March 25. The 1000 m2 space at 126th Street and 37th Avenue functions as a brewery, bar, and restaurant, with 60 rotating taps and a menu that pulls together food from various chefs.
KCBC in the news
it’s great that my brewery is the best in nyc even though the article starts kind of shit. nonsense like “no one has heard of it”, “fledgling” etc is perhaps this writers idea of “edgy”, but it’s also very inaccurate. it gets better after that.
Avant Garden
East Village fine dining vegan restaurant Avant Garden is making its way to Williamsburg. The new Avant Garden will feature a menu helmed by chef Tony Mongeluzzi, who has been cooking at the Manhattan flagship for the past year and a half and will remain the executive chef there as well. The menu for Williamsburg will offer the same fine dining approaches to vegan food as the East Village outpost but will primarily feature dishes unique to the Williamsburg location.
Real Time MTA Map
In an effort to alleviate the major headaches that can come along with commuting, a team of web developers has created the Real MTA map, which provides up-to-the-minute data on any delays, service changes, or planned work for subway lines.
NYC Cheap Eats
As restaurant prices in New York City continue to soar, finding great inexpensive places becomes more of a priority — and if the food is not only delicious but also outside a diner’s previous experience, all the better. Eater critic Robert Sietsema regularly rounds up neighborhood spots and reviews standouts in the 5 boroughs and adjacent metropolitan areas. The listed are a choice collection of those restaurants, complete with menu recommendations.
2018-04-17:
New York City is not a cheap town. A Monday night dinner at an average bistro can easily run to at least $50 per person, weekday lunch salad rings in near $15, and the norm for cocktails is nearing $18. But that’s not to say there aren’t still deals available for varied, satisfying, and delightful fare — which is exactly what this guide aims to illuminate.
On here, find the best dollar slice in your neighborhood, elusive Korean-Uzbek dishes, century-old spaghetti and meatballs, late-night Ghanaian food, and other standout affordable fare across the 5 boroughs. Take yourself on a walking food tour of Chinatown, eat through the city’s top tacos, and gorge on rice noodles.
