Love for the artificial
i believe machines will .. reach human levels of intelligence, including the ability to understand and respond appropriately to human emotion, including to be able to give and receive love, within 30 years
AI struck me as a rather good movie that asks the right questions. as we go more cyborg, will we respect machines? what will guide our body enhancement choices? gigolo joe, another mecha remarks to david:
you are being loved for what you do to them, they don’t love you
at some point, we will have to face this question too. maybe we already do.
knights roxxor.

Le pacte des loups
was one of the better films of recent memory. a well-developed story, great action, good photography, and some subtle historical references all woven into a 150 minute movie. highly recommended.
sorry excuse for a movie

watch out for people who have read the book or watched the movie (or both, ugh) and liked it. a danger sign. these people are bad for you. the movie is harry potter in case you didn’t figure it out ๐
living the past
i finally saw high fidelity last night, after it had been recommended to me by andrea 2 years ago. i had to smile at the subtle hint that took me quite a while to figure out ๐
The royal tenenbaums
an awesome movie. a story about melancholy and redemption.
The dancer
Saw the dancer today. Great movie
Bangkok Day 15
today was a good day. i made a lot of progress, we completed a release ready to install at the customer site, and are now heavily into re-architecting the application (it needed that, seriously..) slowly, but surely, the thais around the office pick up my ideas and start to become more productive by being more organized. sooner or later i will explain them how to write a .NET application ๐
also, my surfing got a lot faster when i installed the proximotron, a very cool local proxy that filters out all the crap that goes into websites these days.
in the evening, i went to emporium and met jam by chance. she is a friend of oliver and me and i know her from my last visit. afterwards, i went to see memento, a very special movie.
Shrek vs Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy opens today in the US (and will open around august 18th here). And Shrek has just opened. Both movies have only synthetic actors, which makes them kind of intriguing ๐
The days when have to endure tom cruise might just about be over. Or they might not. As James Cameron has said: people do not want to see actors. people want to see stars.
Will synthetic actors draw fans? If Lara Croft is any indication, they will.. social implications aside, both of these movies are stunningly made and best of class. I will certainly check them out.
Very timely, slashdot has an article about the tech behind final fantasy.
