Better Media?

“The easiest thing in journalism is to create heat. The hardest is light. We’re in the light business.” NewsHour might be in the light business, but there are a lot of heavy hitters watching as PBS has become the network of record by booking the best and the brightest in their fields for interview and analysis.

there is hope for parts of the mainstream media: NPR is now the “you don’t treat me like i am an idiot.” on the other hand, a lot of media considers itself high quality but is total garbage, such as the NYT.

Truth to parallelism

We can speak truth to parallelism. So doofuses of the world: next time you excrete the words “NP-complete,” “solve,” and “instantaneous” anywhere near one another, brace yourselves for a Bennett-Bernstein-Brassard-Blitzirani the likes of which the multiverse has never seen.

To put things in perspective, shown data consists of the lead stories for each day of November 2004. New York was mentioned numerous times, and there was a story on Florida, hence the stretched area over US. Northern Europe was a source of several mentions also, hence the blip. Middle East was a heavy contributor and there were a couple of stories about Palestine, Sudan and Kenya, hence the stretched component over eastern Africa.

very nice. this has lots of potential

Blasphemy Challenge

“Wow, that’s a dramatic way of putting it” But however he defines his challenge, Brian is on the cutting edge of a new and emboldened wave of atheism. “There isn’t any good reason to believe in God. It’s that simple.” What’s wrong with God? “What’s wrong with the tooth fairy?. There’s nothing wrong with something that most likely doesn’t exist.”

There are 30m atheists in the United States, and they feel like a persecuted minority.

about time atheists come out of the closet
