Chinese Censors

So why were they unable to show any film of Chinese violence against the “peaceful” monks? Tibet is brimming with Canadians and San Franciscans; no doubt they would have captured any such violence. The lack of actual evidence doesn’t stop the western media from making allegations, though.

as usual, joshua digs deeper. we are clearly not hearing the whole story about tibet

Radio Kills the TV Star

The average PBS show on prime time now scores about a 1.4 Nielsen rating … [ed., that’s down roughly 30% over the last decade] On the other side of the ledger the audience for public radio has been growing: there are more than 30m listeners now, compared to just 2m in 1980. “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered,” NPR’s morning and evening news programs, are the 2nd and 4th most listened to shows in the country. PBS programming costs more than NPR programming, so NPR has been able to innovate easier and most cost-effectively than PBS within the same tight budget.

makes sense that quality programming would die first. it attracts the kind of people intelligent enough to recognize they are wasting away their life in front of the tv.

News Analysis

TextMap is a search engine for entities: the important (and not so important) people, places, and things in the news. Our news analysis system automatically identifies and monitors these entities, and identifies meaningful relationships between them. TextMap analyzes both the temporal and geographical distribution of news entities. We literally monitor the state-of-the-world through our analysis of 1000 domestic and international news sources every day.

France Facebook President

Giant Hoax

5 years ago, “IronKite” submitted this wonderful photo illustration to a Worth1000.com Photoshop contest on the theme of “Archaeological Anomalies.” The powerful picture was transformed into an Internet urban legend about the National Geographic Society’s discovery of the remains of giant humans in India. Several media outlets reported the story as fact. To this day, the National Geographic Society continues to receive international inquiries about this race of giants.

Broken Business Models

I won’t go into it again in detail (see here and here) but it strikes me that instead of vainly trying to preserve an outdated business model by desperately looking to slap taxes and rents on anything that moves, artists and their agents should be looking to embrace the long proven and manifest advantages of robust, liquid and transparent markets to reduce their risks and refine their pricing.

too funny. sean makes up a nice example to expose the usual lunacy of the dying music industry.
