i am happy to report that our partner goyellow is ramping up their blog efforts, and is now reporting on new features, like the higher resolution images, and new live search functionality. they also added bird flu sightings as a public service announcement. here’s to hoping that the blogosphere will enter the conversation.

landing pages that aren’t
if you want to capture the attention of web innovators, you might want to start with an accessible site. when i see sites like this or this, i hit the back button. so does google.
looks like it’s not only clueless startups. bmw germany uses inaccessible javascript navigation, and in an effort to ‘fix’ their resulting crap google ranking, used doorway pages, which resulted in the google death penalty. right on.
Great pitch
adam fields has a great page to attract new consulting business. well done.
Olympics Zenith
the olympic ideal is being killed as we speak. between forcing mcdonalds on attendees, extortion on the ticket prices, calls for a separate event for bionic athletes and censoring only thorough reform can remove the senile kleptocrats at the IOC helm. when it comes to clue, the linking policy speaks volumes.
Emailcrew
my friend doug is easing into his new role at MGM Mirage as technology coordinator for permission-based email campaigns. to this end, he created emailcrew.
EmailCrew.com aspires to be to email marketing professionals what A List Apart (ALA) is to web design professionals; a forward-thinking resource for the responsible yet effective design and distribution of content. Where ALA focuses on the browser, EmailCrew will focus on the email client and the tools and techniques used to deliver opt-in, permission-based, rich-media email campaigns.
it will be interesting to watch this one unfold with pundits declaring the death of email.
eNormicom!
Is your company having an e-dentity crisis? Then you need the eNormicom Image Bucket Program
open source branding
I’m not suggesting the monster gets replaced with some prick with a laptop looking serious while rubbing his chin as his foxy secretary takes notes in their walnut and leather office – but something a little more businessy wouldn’t hurt.
+1
Penguins, overdone.
Wyona is participating in an IBM promo event for open source. Why they thought that the audience would appreciate a stupid flash site is beyond me. Try too hard to be hip with not enough clue, and you look like an idiot.
PR outside the beaten trail
this is how i would like to close the feature list once kaywa opens its doors:
Chock full of amusing and delightful technological confections
In addition to doing all that is necessary, Oddpost also does most of that which is charmingly unnecessary. You can, for example, choose one of several uproarious built-in sounds to play whenever new mail arrives, or better yet, specify a URL to your favorite song clip, movie quote, or any other wav or mp3 on the web. And how many times have you resorted to hello or a mind-numbing yo as the subject for an email? With Oddpost, a single click on a new message Subject: label summons the mysterious powers of the Subject-O-Matique to generate a thought-provoking subject for you. But enough talk! We implore you to sign up for a trial account at once!
Marketing strategies
I volunteered to write the marketing strategy for a new venture I’m part of. Fun stuff, and a new challenge.
The basic premise is to launch a product with little capital by leveraging viral marketing channels.
Elements of a Viral Marketing Strategy
- Gives away products or services
- Provides for effortless transfer to others
- Scales easily from small to very large
- Exploits common motivations and behaviors
- Utilizes existing communication networks
- Takes advantage of others’ resources
Let’s see:
1) our product will be free
2) sign up will be easy via notification of friends
3) account creation is automated. content is stored statically
4) exploits the desire to communicate and be hip
5) will invite users to notify their friends of the new service
6) will make use of existing syndication and replication infrastructure
