Microsoft and KML support
When the subject of KML support was brought up, the speaker from MS was in disbelief. He said something to the effect of “no, not in our plans”, but had the look of shock that we would ask such an outrageous question
bunch of lamers.

validating kml
i recently checked in KML support for the feedvalidator. with the number of KML files out there, it was time. let me know how it works for you.
KML in Flickr
Will we have a KML feed that loads photos based on the viewport? Probably. It’s no coincidence that our flickr.photos.search API takes a bbox parameter for searches while Google Earth automatically added a bbox parameter to urls it loads with a NetworkLink. The intention (well mine anyway) from the start has always been that you should be able to point Google Earth directly at Flickr’s API and just let them get on with it.
flickr does kml output. a good start. now if yahoo maps started using kml. kudos to flickr for adding the KML link officially. now they only need to efficiently serve more than 20 photos 🙂
What Went Wrong with GML
architecture astronauts. and now everyone uses “simple” which weighs in at a mere 100 pages.
GML in KML
This makes for an ideal partnership between GML and KML. GML is not about geographic visualization, but about geographic content description. Where KML is “place centric”, GML is “feature centric”. Where KML deals with the presentation of geographic things, GML seeks only to describe them in formal terms, quite apart from their presentation. Of course this means that it is natural to talk about styling GML data, meaning to apply interpretation rules, in order to generate a KML visualization.

What would you like in KML 3.0?
A way of controlling the user experience from within the code — for example, by being able to choose whether popups appear in a tour, how fast such a tour should run, and whether a tour should start automatically. I’d also love to have better time-line functionality (along these lines), and the ability to subscribe to GeoRSS and WMS from within KML network links.
