Location Reviews

Popular times
my team had a (small) hand in helping with this feature. i think it’s one of the neatest things maps has launched this year.
Since introducing the Popular Times feature in Google Search and Maps last year, you’ve been able to check how busy a place typically is at different times of the week. Just in time for the Black Friday swarms, we’re adding a real-time look at how crowded a place is right now, to help you decide where and when to go. Whether you’re rushing to pick up a last minute gift or seeking a lively bar for some festive spirit, check Popular Times for a sneak preview of what to expect when you arrive.
Street view Player
The google maps streetview player will take in either a starting point and end point, or a provided file of a route and provide a playthrough of the google streetview images that are available.
Your map

SneakAirs
this is very clever, removing the stigma of pulling out your phone at every intersection to get directions. from easyjet, of all people. naturally uses google maps walking directions.
Project Sunroof
i’m really excited about this. solar is mostly held back by inefficiencies of installation and planning, not the actual cells these days. i hope this expands worldwide as fast as possible.
Project Sunroof uses information that’s in Google Maps to figure out how much sun falls on a roof and takes into account stuff like the angle of the roof, the weather, and obstructions like trees and chimneys. Then it uses those measurements to figure out how many panels you’d probably need and how much you could save on your electric bill, including solar incentives in your area
NIMBY Waze fights
The Waze app is destroying neighborhoods in Los Angeles … so claim some very pissed off homeowners. residents are uniting to report congestion in their area so cars are rerouted to other streets.
Google Maps ICBM
That is actually a feature of the old maps (you can clearly see it’s the older version)
Google announced that their newest version of Maps will enable users to fire a missile at any location on the planet. “Simply zoom in on any point on the map, set the crosshairs, and tap the ‘Launch’ button, and a Google satellite will immediately send an ASM cruise missile accurate within 2m”
