Etoy History

for an art show with etoy i had the chance to escape to japan for 3 months. i was completly wrecked and tried to ignore the release of harper collins’ “leaving reality behind” book that hurt me more than anything else before. the book about “my life”, etoy and TOYWAR was written by a former friend of mine, regula bochsler. i considered her one of the 12 most important people in my life and blindly trusted her. for me to read the final draft of the script was a new dimension of human distraction! after working for 1 year with etoy (incl. full access to our archive, work and friends) the authors probably got under commercial pressure and started to mix and twist facts to get the plot they needed. among lots of dirty little stories the book limited female TOYWAR-HEROES like our CTO etoy.MONOROM or the transsexual performer COCO to my groupies and described my partners as naive acolytes but instead totally over pomoted the old etoy.BOY-GROUP that was history long before TOYWAR even started. COCO’s tragic suicide was just another hype for the story and on top of all this i was called “heinrich”, a fucked up devil who picked linz – the cultural capital of adolf hitler – to launch his international career as a greedy artist.

Luis Villa goes to Law School

Gnome developer and former Ximian guru, Luis Villa, has gone to law school. I just wrote about why it’s important for open source companies to have an attorney on staff. I can’t think of a better qualified attorney than one that also groks open source at the code and community levels. Luis knocks both of those balls out of the park.

Nico Civelli Update

Nico Civelli’s career embodies the entrepreneurial and sophisticated spirit of Finmetal. An independent financial advisor from Zurich holding both Finnish and the Swiss citizenships, Mr. Civelli brings multilingual, cross-cultural expertise to Finmetal’s efforts. His company, Niconsult Ltd., is involved mainly in corporate finance and money management for select clients in Zurich and throughout Europe. His clients include a well-known private asset management company specializing in the natural resource sector and in fund management. He studied at the Universities of Zurich and St Gallen, and finished his Master’s degree in applied finance at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. Before and during his studies he worked for several independent money managers and a private Zurich bank.

this cracks me up. i went to high school and parts of university with this kid.

Mac Poor Usability

i picked a mac as my new workhorse, so i will be curious to see whether i drink the koolaid, or whether eric’s got it right

My main cause for regret is the overall usability of the OS. There are 3 main issues here. The lack of keyboard access to commands, the antiquated menu bar and the MDI.
