Words are conspiracies
Dear XXXX:
The dictionary search engine is a small program whose sole job is to analyze an input into a field and search our database for an exact or near match to the inputted word. “Democratic” is given in the suggested entries list when you entered “democrasy” because it is orthographically similar to the word you entered. We can assure you that the dictionary search engine was not written by Bolsheviks, nor is it programmed only to return Socialist or “unAmerican” words, as you suggest.

Club Applebee’s?
hard to better define the existential ennui of suburbia.
In July, Nick Pirrone and 3 friends were driving home from a St. Louis Cardinals game when they stopped at an Applebee’s in St. Charles, Mo., for dinner. It was after 22:00, and when the teenagers walked into the casual dining restaurant, they didn’t find the traditional family-friendly atmosphere they’d grown up with. Instead, they found a karaoke bar. “There were a lot of people drinking and singing Backstreet Boys,. The place was packed. There was even a DJ.” The 4 ate half-price appetizers and were so amused by the revelry that they returned a few weeks later with a group of 14. “It was actually kind of fun. I mean, there’s not much else to do around here. It’s the suburbs.”

Indian movies get more subtle
modern indian cinema. pretty interesting as a cultural study
Delhi Belly is a slick, madly crazy production that is mostly funny — although the humour will more likely appeal to the 20-something and perhaps 30-something public school educated, English speaking, big city audience that the film targets through its previews, videos and playful songs (from a spoof on K L Saigal’s voice, to one that may or may not allude to a curse word). But I know for sure that my mother and just about everyone of her generation will be totally turned off watching Delhi Belly.
Future Day
Most of our holidays are focused on past events or individuals, or on the rhythms of nature. History and nature are wonderful and should be honored — but the amazing future we are building together should be honored as well. Future Day is a way of focusing and celebrating the energy that more and more people around the world are directing toward creating a radically better future.
Tedious conversationalists
A person with oppositional conversational style is a person who, in conversation, disagrees with and corrects whatever you say.
i have definitely met a few people with that pattern. the discussion thread on that post is pretty interesting.
Think Before You Breed
In fact, people are still expected to provide reasons not to have children, but no reasons are required to have them. It’s assumed that if individuals do not have children it is because they are infertile, too selfish or have just not yet gotten around to it. In any case, they owe their interlocutor an explanation. On the other hand, no one says to the proud parents of a newborn, Why did you choose to have that child? What are your reasons? The choice to procreate is not regarded as needing any thought or justification.
