GPS Goggle

A coming together of sports lens developer Zeal Optics and display innovator Recon Instruments has managed to successfully squeeze both GPS technology and head-mounted display into a set of ski goggles named Transcend. A tiny computer gathers information from a number of onboard sensors and provides location, speed, altitude and temperature information to the wearer via a micro-LCD display inside the goggles. The image from the display is then virtually projected so that it appears out in front of the user.

currently only displays the gps in HUD, and the map offline, but it is a start.

Magic Mirror

A mirror tricked out with 1024 multi-touch points acts as the heart of the dressing booth. The pieces of clothing you’ve selected show up the massive display and are then superimposed onto your reflection. You can even “flick” clothes from a separate iPad app directly to the giant mirror. How well Macy’s “Magic Fitting Room” will work remains to be seen, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Macy’s suddenly sees more returns this holiday season than usual.

selling more crap is one way for AR to break through.

AR flashmob

Every square in every major city in the world knows the ‘human statue’ phenomenon. On the Dam square in Amsterdam we’ve the following set of characters: a Darth Vader, a superman, a gladiator and some undecipherable sort of gothic characters. Even though they have nothing to do with the city of Amsterdam, people go and have their picture taken with them on and off. But not on the 24th of April! Then, the majority of people will be photographing the empty space beside Darth. Because that space will be occupied by virtual ‘human sculptures’

One day soon kids will pay AR pranks on passersby.
