10 ma memory
made from 2 thin disks of industrial sapphire. On 1 side, text or images are etched in platinum and then the 2 disks are molecularly fused together. All a future archaeologist would need to read them is a microscope. They hope to demonstrate a lifetime of 10M years.
Searching genomic data faster

finding similar sequences is the central problem of computational biology, and doing substantially better than the leading BLAST algorithm which is O(MN), is a great achievement.

Useless quarterly reports

Unused rooftops

Real economic experiments?
Valve’s digital economies are a marvelous test-bed for meaningful experimentation. Not only do we have a full-information set (making sampling superfluous) but, more importantly, we can change the economy’s underlying values, rules and settings, and then sit back to observe how the community responds, how relative prices change, the new behavioral patterns that evolve. An economist’s paradise indeed

Delhi Belly is a slick, madly crazy production that is mostly funny — although the humour will more likely appeal to the 20-something and perhaps 30-something public school educated, English speaking, big city audience that the film targets through its previews, videos and playful songs (from a spoof on K L Saigal’s voice, to one that may or may not allude to a curse word). But I know for sure that my mother and just about everyone of her generation will be totally turned off watching Delhi Belly.
No more empty lots
