Geohash

If wanted, you may provide a name to a Geohash location, by appending the name to the Geohash itself after a colon. Any underlines in the name will be replaced by spaces, and the name will be displayed in geohash.org, and also used as the default title for GPX downloads and when sending it to Garmin GPS receivers. Here is an example

This change will have a greater impact in the mobile world. I could envision standing on a street corner in NYC and selecting for a grade of restaurant within walking distance. Unfortunately, Google’s reviews don’t account for cost or food preference variables and would still have limited value in this context. Does anyone know if this feature is now available on the iPhone?

Gulf names

We, the undersigned, through this letter, protest your irresponsible, unscientific actions, and demand an immediate and unconditional deletion of “Arabian Gulf” from Google Earth. Arbitrarily designating the Persian Gulf as the Arabian Gulf is an irresponsible violation of all historical and International standards and would undermine the integrity of Google Earth.
